1 August: Norwood estate stages summer sports fest.

Budding young olympians will get the chance to show off their sporting prowess at a local sports themed event next week. The Woodvale estate’s tenants and residents association in Norwood has been awarded £500 from the Lambeth Community Fund and the London Community Foundation to stage an Olympic themed community fun day.

The sports day will take place on 11 August, 12pm – 5pm, and will see budding Usain Bolt’s and Jessica Ennis’s compete in traditional Olympic style events including sprint races and long jump. Certificates, medals, and prizes will be handed out to winners on the day.

There will be something for everyone at the fun day and non-sporting visitors can enjoy fun activities including bouncy castles, face painting, fancy dress, BBQ and music.

Mary Hannigan, chair of the Woodvale estate TRA said: “With the Olympics, Wimbledon and Euro 2012 taking place this summer, we thought it would be good if we could hold a summer sports fest of our own, so it’s great that we’ve been awarded this money. We plan to put on a fun event that will be remembered for years to come”.

Keith Hill, Lambeth London Living chair said; “Lambeth London Living is about supporting communities as well as providing decent homes, so I’m delighted that Lambeth London Living staff working with the Woodvale TRA submitted a successful funding application. I look forward to cheering on our mini Olympians”.
