28 July 2023 Chaplin Close residents receive £80,000 safety boost

Residents of one of Lambeth London Living’s sheltered schemes are enjoying improved safety now a new high security entry system’s been installed.

Lambeth London Living has spent £80,000 on new entrance gates at Chaplin Close in North Lambeth and an electronic door entry system for each resident. The new gates are much higher than the previous gates and are designed to stop people from climbing over and using the estate as a walkway to neighbouring streets.

Ann Parnell, Teasurer of the Chaplin Close Tenants’ Association, says the residents are thrilled with the improvements. She said: “Before the new gates were installed there were groups of people loitering in the grounds, but now the residents feel safe enough to sit outside which they never used to.”

The new door entry system features a flashing light as well as a bell inside each property so those who are hard of hearing don’t have to rely on just a buzzer when someone comes to visit.

Lambeth London Living Chief Executive Cathy Deplessis said: “We want all our tenants to feel safe at home, so when we learnt of the problems occurring on this sheltered scheme, it was important for us to get this work carried out.”

The Tenants’ Association is now planning a party to celebrate the new gates and door entry system.
