19 February: The Brixton Supplementary Planning document consultation

The consultation on a guide for development in Brixton town centre is underway. Local people have helped to produce the draft Brixton Supplementary Planning Document (or SPD). It lets people know how we all think the town centre can change for the better and what benefits we want to see from any investment.

You can find out all about the proposals and how to have your say at - you can comment directly on the website, complete a questionnaire online or send us detailed comments directly.

In addition we’ve been out and about in the town centre so you can come and discuss any issues directly with us.

Council officers will be available to discuss the SPD at the following times and locations:

  • Wednesday 20 February, 2pm to 5.30pm, at Brixton Rec
  • Thursday 21 February, 10.30am to 3pm, at the Warm and Well event (Lambeth Accord building, 336 Brixton Road)
  • Wednesday 27 February, 6pm to 8pm, at Lambeth Town Hall (exhibition in foyer area)
  • Thursday 28 February, 1pm to 3pm, at Lambeth Town Hall (exhibition in foyer area).

Somerleyton Road Project
Proposals for Somerleyton Road, which could include a new theatre, are beginning to take shape. Some initial outline plans have been drawn up by architects working for the council and discussions are taking place with Ovalhouse, Brixton Green and other members of the local community. A community workshop was hosted by Brixton Green on Saturday 9 February to broaden the debate and encourage local residents to get involved.
