Safer Homes Fund
Hundreds of Lambeth Living residents are eligible for a free
upgrade of their home security. This could include new door and
window locks, chains or spy holes.
The improvements will be paid for by the Clapham Park Project,
which has been granted nearly £100,000 from the Home Office to help
secure homes across the Lambeth region.
Already, a number of local residents have made the most of this
opportunity.
Ching Wah Wong, Programme Manager for the Clapham Park Project,
said,
“We would urge more tenants to take
advantage of the funding. Recently a resident was assessed and had
her home fitted with a spy hole. Her son has special needs and she
says she now feels much safer because she can see who’s knocking at
her door before opening it. She also had a letter box guard fitted
which means she is no longer worried about people trying to put
their hands through the letterbox as it only allows letters
through."
Lambeth Living Chief Executive Cathy Deplessis said,
“We are delighted to be working together
with the Clapham Park Project to make homes even more secure for
our tenants. Their safety and wellbeing is extremely important to
us.
Separate to this scheme, Lambeth Living has
already provided 710 homes with new door entry and closed circuit
TV (CCTV) systems. Another 804 are to be installed.
We are also investing in other security
projects identified by residents including estate lighting,
security gates and redesigning poor estate design features to
discourage anti-social behaviour.”
